Ministry Okays Core Tech of Fudan-SPC R&D

Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company Limited (SPC) recently saw a special visit of over 30 guests including Vice Minister Cao Jianlin of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), President Yang Yuliang of Fudan University, Director-General Hu Shihui of the Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization of MOST, Director Xie Zaiku of the Department of Science and Technology Development of Sinopec Group, Deputy Director Chen Mingbo of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Deputy Director Zhou Minhao of the Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization and Chief Economist Weng Huajian of the Municipal Development & Reform Commission. The distinguished guests listened to the mid-term report on the carbon fiber project of the National High-tech Research and Development Program (called 863 Program for short) undertaken jointly by Fudan University and SPC.

Having heard the report, Cao Jianlin spoke highly of SPC for its dedicated efforts on scientific research and development. It was of great significance for Fudan and SPC, a cooperative team boasting the most competitive theoretical and research talents in the country, to crack the hard nuts in science and technology for the sake of national benefits by working together in R&D of the high-end chemical carbon fiber technique project, Cao said.

The 863 Program, a strategic plan for the high-tech R&D in the country, is launched for the national strategic demand. The carbon fiber scientific research project, initiated in 2009 and co-undertaken by Fudan University and SPC with the strong support of the Department of Science and Technology Development, has hit a breakthrough in university-enterprise coordination by materializing scientific and innovative approaches to theoretical research and technological application. All this is of great value in scientific research and development and embraces a promising market development. The project, being pushed forward in an application-oriented and demand-based approach, will serve as a powerful technical backup for SPC’s development in carbon fiber.

Rong Guangdao, SPC Chairman and Secretary of the CPC SPC Committee and Deputy General Manager Li Honggen attended the meeting and showed the guests around SPC.
